Project Brief

Client + Background:

Converse is an American lifestyle brand that markets, distributes, and licenses footwear, apparel, and accessories. Founded by Marquis Mills Converse in 1908 as the Converse Rubber Shoe Company in Malden, Massachusetts, it has been acquired by several companies before becoming a subsidiary of Nike, Inc. in 2003.

Converse's portfolio includes products under the Chuck Taylor All-Stars, Cons, Jack Purcell, One Star, and Star Chevron trademarks. It frequently collaborates on special-edition product releases with other brands such as John Varvatos. [1]

The audience:

Transit (especially train) enthusiasts, tourists and NYC citizens who are dedicated to their local train line(s).

The problem:
To expand their accessibility of branding and advertising, Converse is seeking out a way to collaborate with a major New York City transit corporation, while maintaining an appeal to their youthful and diverse audience.

Our goal:
There are millions of New Yorkers and visitors who take the subway every single day, be it to work, school, or the various entertainment opportunities across the city. Some people forever idealize their favorite local train line, and there is no better way to represent your favorite than on the shoes on your feet. For New Yorkers and visitors, Converse x MTA sneakers would be a way of representing your culture beyond pins or patches!
